European funds for research and innovation for Swiss SMEs
Swiss companies generate every second Swiss franc abroad. Europe is by far the most important partner in terms of research, innovation and exchange of know-how.
Between 2007 and 2013, over 500 Swiss companies took part in EU projects and received direct funding for their research and innovation activities. Euresearch, the Swiss player that opens the door to the market and knowledge in Europe, can present you with new opportunities in the current research framework programme “Horizon 2020”.
Numerous opportunities for SMEs - But how do you find the programme that’s right for you?
In the research framework programme “Horizon 2020” (runtime 2014-2020) there are numerous opportunities for Swiss SMEs to get involved. The areas covered include life sciences (health, drug development, biotechnology, medical technology), energy, climate, nano-technology, transport, information technology and much more. Many tenders are application-oriented, and a large part of the current requests recommends the involvement of SMEs. The Eurostars programme also offers companies attractive collaborative and funding opportunities. It is crucial that you find the right programme that best covers your needs. The basic distinguishing features are: where is the programme on the innovation axis “Research - Development - Production/Market”? Are the project topics specified (top-down), or can they be freely determined (bottom-up)? Euresearch will help you find the right programme for you and gladly explain the framework conditions.
Your added value
With a stake in a European cooperation project, you will gain know-how and be able to access new technologies. You can also finance staff, build business partnerships and open up new markets.
Martin Frauenfelder, Managing Director of Paro AG in Subingen (SO) and partner in one of the projects in “Horizon 2020” says:
“Participating in European projects has brought us many advantages: from increasing our network and identifying new market opportunities, to developing new products and services and increasing our competitiveness. Participating in international projects has a positive cultural impact and opens new perspectives to new opportunities for our products and services”.
