Editorial

Dear reader,

Switzerland has been under international pressure for several years because of its tax regimes for holdings, mixed and domiciliary companies. Against this backdrop, the two chambers of the Swiss Parliament passed the third series of corporate tax reforms (CTR III) on 17 June 2016. The objective of the tax reform is to discontinue the privileged tax regimes and at the same time implement internationally recognized tax policy measures. In order to increase the legal and planning security for the Basel based companies at an early stage, the Cantonal Government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt presented a package of measures to implement the reform on 8 September 2016. With the recommended measures, the attractiveness of the tax framework conditions and the competitiveness of the canton among other things, - especially with regard to preserving innovative strength - should remain sustainably effective.

In the present edition of the AWA Newsletter, in addition to the advice on the cantonal implementation of the CTR III, we report on further interesting topics and projects, such as the meaning of personalised medicine and the related construction of the national data coordination centre close to the Technologiepark Basel.

The next edition of the AWA Newsletter will be published in spring 2017.
