Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area: Strong funding body, new offerings
By launching the „Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area AG (SIP)“ at the end of January, a new milestone was achieved in the further development of the regional Innovation Park. Initial shareholders are the three Cantons Basel-Landschaft, Basel-Stadt and Jura. At the end of 2017 the funding body will be expanded to include academic and corporate shareholders. Management and the board work intensively to fine-tune a content strategy, to define infrastructure-related services and to develop appropriate innovation services, which will be offered by BaselArea.swiss.
Expanding its space offerings at the location Allschwil is the fourth and an important task, besides expanding the funding body, and developing content and services. At the beginning of April 2017 the SIP offers – including the existing spaces – a total of 6’000m2 of office and lab space with attractive terms and conditions to companies that are interested and to research institutes.
After this first expansion in Allschwil, further expansions in Delémont, Jura and at a later point also a new building in Allschwil are in planning. The total development area will increase to about 20’000m2. In addition, a third location in the city of Basel is scheduled to be developed. Being in close touch with the private sector as well as regional universities and colleges enables these locations to initiate and accelerate research activities, and to promote knowledge and technology transfer. The Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area is part of the federal initiative Switzerland Innovation with four other locations across Switzerland.
