Spotlight on the administration“ at apparel company Tally Weijl
For the third time, the Economic Development unit of the Office of Economy and Labour (AWA) invited employees of the Canton of Basel-Stadt to an in-house networking event called „Spotlight on the Administration“.
This year’s special guest was the apparel company Tally Weijl. The company is headquartered in Basel and is internationally active in 37 countries with over 3'400 employees.

Before transitioning to the main topic of the evening, Ms. Natalie Trepte (AWA) presented the processes and daily challenges in obtaining work permits at the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Event participants were greatly interested in hearing about how quotas for Non-EU citizens are being handled, which is a critical topic in Switzerland, also for the Canton of Basel-Stadt.
Mr. Beat Grüring and his team have put in the same high amount of professionalism and drive presenting the company as they manage Tally Weijl today. It was exciting how the founding duo Tally Elfassi-Weijl and Beat Grüring got started and within a short time grew the company to a global player in the apparel industry. The audience also enjoyed listening about their new monthly fashion collections and how clothing lines are being created – from the initial idea to the sales channels.
We would like to take this opportunity here to thank the team at Tally Weijl for providing these interesting insights into their company and to open their doors for us. It is always a pleasure for government employees to have such a personal and direct exchange with the business world.
