New sites and locations for businesses: The economic promotion office plans a company survey

After availability for commercial real estate has dropped, the city planning and area development that has been introduced over recent years gives fresh hope.

The Canton of Basel-Stadt strives to provide adequate space for companies that are just starting up, that are in expansion mode or companies that are relocating to the region. After availability for commercial real estate has dropped, the city planning and area development that has been introduced over recent years gives fresh hope on the supply side. Besides the local government taking initiative to develop economic hubs more densely, also the acquisition of sites and real estate through the Canton of Basel-Stadt for commercial use, and growing interest from the private sector have contributed in creating more supply. Examples are the acquisition of the Rosental-Area through the Canton and development plans in Klybeck-Kleinhüningen, in the Volta-Nord neighbourhood and the freight train depot Wolf, or other real estate projects near the train station Basel SBB, Stückiareal or the Messeplatz.

These developments have created excellent opportunities not only for companies that are looking to establish an operation in the Canton of Basel-Stadt, but now also local companies have the flexibility to find the right space for their needs: For example, a company experiences rapid growth or wants to centralize various offices in a single location or has plans to optimize its footprint. To get to know these challenges and needs in more detail and to fine-tune supply and demand even better, the Economic Development unit of the Office of Economy and Labour will conduct an online survey until the end of the year with companies in the city of Basel to gauge their real estate needs. Taking part in the survey is not mandatory; invitations for the survey will be mailed out in the coming months.

For companies that are interested in learning more about the survey, please contact the Economic Development unit.
