Approximately 70 software developers, technology enthusiasts and creatives gathered at the FHNW Academy of Art and Design (FHNW Academy) over the weekend of October 28th 2017 for the Basel Hackathon. The first ever „BaselHack“ was organized by an association with the same name, which was founded mid-2017.
„The region has transformed enormously in the digital space in recent years and we have now a lively community of software developers“, says president Ms. Stefani Gerber. So the idea to organize a hackathon in Basel basically presented itself.
The BaselHack founders were not alone with this idea. The association grew quickly to over 20 members. The energetic organization committee received sponsoring support from Baloise, Adobe, Bluesky, Actemium and FHNW as well as gained location partners Smart Regio Basel, Canton of Basellandschaft and BaselArea.swiss.
BaselHack also received great interest from the local software community. At the hackathon, the roughly 70 attendees formed eleven teams. Each team ideated and pushed their ideas to actionable prototypes during the 30-hours hackathon.
