Euroairport Mediation Centre for the Swiss Sector

The Office of Economy and Labour runs the office of the mediation centre for the Swiss sector and common sector of the Basel-Mulhouse airport. Its task is to support parties under employment contracts (employees and employers from companies based there as well as from the Euroairport itself) in case of an individual dispute and to jointly develop workable and satisfactory solutions for both parties. The procedure is free of charge, confidential and independent from the courts.

Composition of the mediation centre:
The mediation centre consists of four persons. The AWA and the Unité territoriale (http://grand-est.direccte.gouv.fr/Haut-Rhin) each appoint two full members and at least one substitute member for a term of four years, all of whom shall be familiar with the current practice in the Swiss sector and common sector of the Basel-Mulhouse airport.

The mediation does not rule out the possibility of taking ordinary legal measures, if no satisfactory solution can be found.

Why a mediation centre for the Euroairport?
The reason for the constitution of the Euroairport mediation centre is based on the fact that since the opening of the Basel-Mulhouse airport, contractual employment relationships in the Swiss sector and common sector are governed by the Swiss labour law. This ensures a high level of protection for employees within the scope of both occupational health and safety. In their framework agreement regarding the applicable rules in labour law dated 22 March 2012 («Accord de méthode relatif au régime applicable aux enterprises du secteur suisse et du secteur commun de l’aéroport de Bâle-Mulhouse»), France and Switzerland have recognized that the current practice of the companies can be maintained.
