Logistics situation in Basel
Due to its geographic location at the "Dreiländereck" (three countries corner) and along the European freight corridor from Rotterdam to Genoa, the greater Basel region is the most important logistics location in Switzerland.

The region has a gateway function: Altogether, 20 million tonnes of economic goods are handled or transported in Basel and its surroundings every year. This corresponds to about 30% of Switzerland's external trade.

The convergence of important road and rail traffic routes, as well as the Rhine, makes Basel an important multimodal traffic hub.

A great strength of the logistics sector in the Basel region is the proximity of innovative sectors such as life sciences, chemistry or capital goods. The entire sector benefits from the strong multimodal infrastructure.

Logistics sector as an employer
Meanwhile, about 18,000 people work in the logistics sector in the region of Basel. Almost 500 apprentices are trained each year. These figures illustrate the great importance of this sector.
