Rent relief for technology start-ups

For technology start-ups with specific requirements in terms of rental space (such as laboratories, cleanrooms, space for pilot productions or high-tech production, specific IT or server rooms, etc.)

In order to reduce the fixed costs of technology start-ups – especially small businesses – suffering from the consequences of COVID-19 the Economic Development Unit offers special short-term grants for rental expenses. By adapting and increasing the existing instrument for rental relief, in the short term, i.e. particularly regarding the years 2020 and 2021, significantly more companies can be financially relieved than previously. This is based on a respective decision by the Great Council (cantonal parliament) of 3 June 2020. Together with the existing funds, a maximum of CHF 3.3 million can be newly assigned between 2020 and 2023.

The Economic Development Unit of the Canton of Basel-Stadt offers your company the possibility of a rent reduction. This means that in the short-term we can provide you, on a quarterly basis, with support of up to a maximum of CHF 75,000 per year for a maximum of 50% of the rental costs. Rent reductions can be applied for since 1 July 2020, using the electronic application form. We will carefully examine your application after receipt. This will take time.
