Departments & Responsibilities

The Office of Economy and Labour offers numerous services in the fields of unemployment, working conditions and economic development.

  • Public Unemployment Insurance Fund of the Canton of Basel-Stadt (OeAK)

    The Public Unemployment Insurance Fund of the Canton of Basel-Stadt is responsible for assessing claims and paying benefits under the unemployment insurance scheme.

  • Regional Employment Centre (RAV)

    The RAV is the office that links up and advises employers and jobseekers.

  • Cantonal Office for Unemployment Insurance (KAST)

    The KAST ensures the uniform implementation of the Swiss Federal Law on mandatory Unemployment Insurance and Insolvency Compensation (AVIG) at the cantonal level.

  • Logistics for Labour Market Measures (LAM)

    The LAM department offers jobseekers a large range of high-quality courses and programmes.

  • Industrial Relations & Arbitration Office (ABZ)

    ABZ answers questions on private employment contract law, checks labour market admission, implements the supporting measures to the CH-EU Agreement on the Free Movement of People, and carries out checks on illegal employment, the cantonal minimum wage and local and industry-standard wages.

  • Labour Inspectorate (AI)

    The Labour Inspectorate is in charge of employee protection as well as health and safety at work (Labour Law). In addition, it advises employees on their statutory protection during building conversions and new constructions.

  • EURES - European Employment Services

    The EURES consultants are experts advising jobseekers on the subject of the cross-border European labour market.

  • Economic Development

    It is our aim to strengthen both the cantonal and the regional economy by working towards optimum framework conditions for the Basel economy, offering specific services and facilitating cooperation with the administration.

  • Specialist Department Principles of Economics

    The Specialist Department Principles of Economics unit draws up the economic fundamentals of the canton and provides the staff work for the Office for Economy and Labour, the Head of the Department of Economic, Social and Environmental Affairs and the Government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt.
